Where do parts prices come from?
You source and enter them yourself from whichever supplier you trust — Car-Part.com, eBay.com, LKQ Pick Your Part, new OEM, or aftermarket. AuctionCalc totals them instantly and factors them straight into your max bid.
Does it pick cars for me?
No. AuctionCalc prevents blind bidding by giving you the real numbers so you can make an informed call — you still do the research and choose which vehicles to bid on.
Is AuctionCalc affiliated with Manheim, Copart, or IAAI?
No. AuctionCalc is an independent tool built to help US buyers estimate costs at Manheim, Copart, and IAAI auctions. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these companies.
Why are Manheim’s fees editable instead of fixed?
Manheim doesn’t publish a single public buyer-fee schedule — fees are set per account, tier, and location. Rather than guess, we ship honest, clearly-labeled placeholder fields under the Manheim tab so you can enter your own account’s actual rates.
Do I have to pay sales tax on my winning bid?
It depends. Licensed dealers with a valid resale/dealer certificate are typically exempt from sales tax at the point of auction purchase — tax is collected later when the vehicle is resold. The calculator defaults to tax-exempt; uncheck the box in Market Value if you don’t hold a valid certificate for this purchase, and it will apply your selected state’s statewide sales tax rate.
Is my calculation history saved or shared anywhere?
It depends on whether you’re signed in. Signed out, your calculations stay in your own browser’s local storage and are not sent anywhere. Signed in, they’re saved to your AuctionCalc account on our servers so they’re waiting for you next time. We never sell your data and never share it with advertisers. One thing to know: saved deals can appear in Deal Hunter, the high-ROI feed available to Pro members — those entries show the vehicle, platform and deal figures, never your name, email or account.
How accurate are the Copart and IAAI fee schedules you use?
They reflect each platform’s published Standard buyer-fee structure. Auction fees can change without notice, so always confirm current fees with your branch before placing a bid.
Do I need an account to use the calculator?
No — the core calculator is free to use with no account required. Enter your own figures and you’ll get your max bid ceiling, the full fee breakdown and your ROI. A free account adds VIN decoding, calculation history saved to your profile, and Deal Score; you’ll confirm your email address before those account features switch on. Paid plans raise your monthly VIN allowance and unlock the Chrome extension, portfolio tracking and Deal Hunter.
What is Deal Score?
Every calculation you save gets a 0–100 Deal Score — 60% based on ROI (capped at 40%) and 40% on projected profit (capped at $10,000) — so you can tell an Excellent Deal from a Weak one at a glance. Switch the Recent Calculations list to “Best Deal” sorting to see your top-ranked saves first. It’s calculated entirely in your browser from your own saved history, free on every plan.
